Students Design Maroon Shirts to Welcome New Alumni

In 2017, a U of M alumna approached the University of Minnesota Alumni Association (UMAA) with an interesting idea: Create a fun, unique shirt only for members to kick off the school year and raise money to ignite student success. Hence, The Maroon Shirt® was born. Every fall since, the limited-edition shirt has been released with a new design, and this year, the design was created by one of our own—graphic design student Erin Suski.

Alumnus and Alumni Society Recognized for Outstanding Achievements

The University of Minnesota’s Alumni Association Awards are presented each fall to recognize outstanding alumni and alumni networks across the University of Minnesota. This year, the College of Design community received not one, but two awards. Bruce Chamberlain (BLA ’89) is the recipient of the 2020 Alumni Service Award for his above-and-beyond contributions, while the college’s Design Student and Alumni Board has been named UMAA’s 2020 Society of the Year.

Alumnus Receives University of Minnesota Alumni Association U40 Award

For the second year in a row, an alumnus from the College of Design will receive the University of Minnesota Alumni Association’s U40 Award. The U40 Award is given to an exceptional alumnus age 40 or younger who has excelled in his or her career. This year’s recipient is Kaamil A. Haider (B.F.A. ’17, Graphic Design).
