College of Design Researchers Take On Grand Challenges

As part of the work to tackle the University’s five Grand Challenge focus areas, the University has allocated $2.96 million over the next two years through the University‚Äôs Driving Tomorrow awards. This funding will support six interdisciplinary team projects and two six-member one-year Grand Challenges Research Scholar Collaboratives. Participating on the teams being funded are two College of Design faculty members Kristine Miller (Landscape Architecture) and Daniela Sandler (Architecture).

From the Dean: A Leadership Transition in Landscape Architecture

Dear Colleagues, As you may know, Lance Neckar will be retiring from the position of Professor of Landscape Architecture and Head of the Department on July 3, 2012. He will assume an endowed chair in Environmental Analysis and Director of the Conservancy for Southern California Sustainability at Pitzer College in Claremont, CA. After consultation of the Landscape Architecture faculty, I appointed Kristine Miller as Interim Head for the 2012-2013 fiscal year. During the next year, Kristine will give leadership to a structured strategic planning process that will inform department goals. Kristine Miller Discusses New York's Public Spaces at the Walker Art Museum

Landscape architecture professor Kristine Miller will discuss her book, Designs on the Public: The Private Lives of New York's Public Spaces, at the Walker Art Center on Friday, April 13. Her presentation is part of an event featuring rapid-fire project talks by other artists and academics, including photographer Wing Young Huie and Aaron Westre (M Arch '09) [read about Westre's current AOV3 exhibition here].
