The Surface Design area within the college’s Graphic Design program are sponsoring an open house and studio sale on December 17, 2010, 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m., in B9 and B22 McNeal Hall.
The Surface Design area has had open house events in the past, this is the first one in which visitors will be able to make their own holiday cards using both letterpress and screenprinting. Visitors will also be able to bring their own t-shirts and print on them, and also buy holiday gifts made by students from various classes: Cards, posters, repeat pattern samples, etc. The Graphic Design Student Association (GDSA) will offer their handmade greetings cards and gift tags, raising funds for the student group. It’s an opportunity for the College to see what work is made in the Surface Design area, to make some things themselves, and even to buy some great designs.
“Our Surface Design courses in the Graphic Design program are geared towards screenprinting, dyeing on fabric and paper, and letterpress — but students can also learn other surface design tools such as laser cutting and relief printing, if they want to incorporate these into their work,” said James Boyd Brent (Graphic Design). “In the future we’re keen to expand digital and polymer plate printing. The Surface Design Studio is all about making.”Read more
