Joyce Feller (Housing Studies '96) Promoted to Federal Veterans Administration

Joyce Feller (Housing Studies '96) had been working for the Department of Defense as a Program Analyst (Civilian), at the Wisconsin Joint Force Headquarters in the Manpower Directorate. Her education in Housing Policy transferred to other governmental and policy areas. For her work as a civilian she was awarded a commendation from the Department of Military Affairs. In December, Joyce was promoted to the Federal Veterans Administration at the William S. Middleton VA Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. She is an Executive Management and Program Analyst in the Nursing Division. Joyce has worked with county, state (Minnesota and Wisconsin) and Federal governments to include the IRS, Department of Defense and HUD. She has developed policy in the areas of Affordable…

Beth Loraine Bowman (Housing Studies '08) to Showcase Work at Fox Tax Gallery in NE Minneapolis

A showcase of work by alumna Beth Loraine Bowman (Housing Studies '08) will appear at the Gallery at Fox Tax in NE Minneapolis this December. The group show "ENTANGLEMENT | A Group Exhibition of Collage" will feature local artists who utilize the technique of collage using mediums such as found objects, magazine clippings, trash, and photography. Bowman, who currently serves on the College of Design Student and Alumni Board, has shown her work throughout the United States and Europe, including three solo shows. Her mixed media images, informed by French Post-war Modernist painting (Tachisme/L'Art Informel), have explored the subjects of memory, place, color experience, shelter/architecture, maternity, and forgiveness. Ashley Grzywa Awarded Fibiger Prize

This semester's Fibiger Prize for Research has been awarded to third-year architecture student Ashley Grzywa. The $1000 award is given every semester to the University of Minnesota College of Design student whose Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) project is ranked #1 among all of the College's applicants and proposals for that semester. The Fibiger Prize is made possible by the generosity of the John A. & Barbara M. Fibiger Endowment. Grzywa's project, Affordable Housing Alternatives: Analysis of Community Land Trusts (CLTs), compares two CLTs in the Mid-West to identify the methods used by each to create and ensure affordable housing options to homeowners.
