In Memoriam: Joan Lee (Whitney) Sharp (B.S. Home Economics '59)

Joan Lee (Whitney) Sharp (B.S. Home Economics '59) earned her degree with high distinction in what was known as the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Home Economics. An involved student, Sharp was the recipient of the Caleb Doer academic scholar award twice, a member of both Phi Upsilon Omicron and Omicron NU, and was also involved with two other academic honor societies that cannot be identified. She passed away March 7, 2012, but not without making a stamp on her communities. Sharp's teaching career spanned 28 years and included all levels from preschool through high school in Del Rio, Texas; Little Rock, Arkansas; Bellvue, Nebraska; and the Air Academy School District in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In Memoriam: Joann Gilbert Kulman

Joann Gilbert Kulman (BS Home Economics Education '54) passed away on April 27, 2012. Kulman grew up on a farm in Buffalo Lake, MN and earned her Home Economics degree at the University of Minnesota. She was forever influenced by the program's interdisciplinary approach and its design emphasis in the tradition of the Goldstein sisters. After teaching high school English and Home Economics in New Ulm, MN, she worked as an interior designer at Schuneman's in St. Paul. Marrying and moving to West Virginia University, she taught design and earned a Masters of Home Economics Education in 1962. Linda Mona (BS Home Economics Education '67) Among Girl Scouts Centennial Honorees

Linda Mona (BS Home Economics Education '67) currently serves on the College of Design advisory board and is former chair of the University of Minnesota Alumni Association. She has been recognized by the Girl Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys as a community champion for her long-time contribution to the organization. The award is part of their yearlong centennial celebration. Mona was a Girl Scout in Eden Prairie where she later became a senior troop leader and board chair of the local Girl Scouts organization. She also helped chaired their 75th Anniversary celebration. The award honors community members who exemplify the culture, values, diversity and spirit of the Girl Scout Movement.
