Lauren Luna Wins 2014 Margot Siegel Design Award

Lauren Luna is the recipient of the Goldstein Museum of Design's 2014 Margot Siegel Award. Luna combines professional training as a painter with an innovative approach to the sculptural qualities of shoes to develop unique footwear. Her designs range from custom-painted sneakers to dramatic stilettos. Lauren received a BFA in painting in 2000 from Kent State University, an MS in art education in 2004 from Manhattan College, and an MFA in painting in 2012 from Academy of Art University in San Francisco. She began painting custom high-top sneakers in 2008, drawing on art historical references such as Japanese woodblock prints and Van Gogh paintings as well as popular culture imagery. The 46th annual apparel design fashion show, Align, took place on February 15, 2014 at 5:30 pm and 8:00 pm in Rapson Hall on the University of Minnesota East Bank campus. Nominate a Designer for the $2,000 Margot Siegel Design Award

The Goldstein Museum of Design (GMD) is now accepting nominations for the second annual Margot Siegel Design Award. The Siegel Design Award honors designers who demonstrate design excellence, innovation, and enhancement of the quality of life. The recipient of the Siegel Design Award will receive an all-expense-paid trip to the Twin Cities to present a public lecture and accept a $2,000 award. Nominations for the 2014 awards will be accepted by email through February 28, 2014. Roald Gundersen (B.Arch, BED '89) Receives Margot Siegel Design Award

The Goldstein Museum of Design (GMD) announced the winner of the first annual Margot Siegel Design Award. Roald Gundersen (B.Arch, BED '89) was nominated and selected to receive the award which honors designers who demonstrate design excellence, innovation, and enhancement of the quality of life. Gundersen has been exploring and experimenting for the past 20 years with natural building and the architecture of small-diameter round timber. He founded WholeTrees in 2007, a company that re-brands round timber for urban and commercial environments in place of steel. The presentation of the award and recognition of philanthropist Margot Siegel will take place in Miami, Florida. Why Museums Matter: Lin Nelson-Mayson Honored in D.C.

Lin Nelson-Mayson, director of the Goldstein Museum of Design, was honored at the 2013 Museums Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C.,  on Feb. 25th. The award recognized Nelson-Mayson’s five years of service as a citizen-lobbyist, one of only 17 who participated in all five years of Museums Advocacy Day, an event organized by the American Alliance of Museums.The Goldstein Museum of Design is a collecting institution that advances the understanding and appreciation of design and the awareness that designed objects can contribute to quality of life. Nelson-Mayson has been a part of the concerted advocacy efforts for museums on Capitol Hill since the inception of Museums Advocacy Day in 2009.
