The University of Minnesota American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS) Freedom by Design program received the very first 2013 AIAS National Freedom by Design Honor Award. AIAS is a student led community service program at the U whose aim is to positively impact the lives of people in their community through modest design and construction solutions.The Freedom by Design Honor Award recognizes chapters that make efforts to achieve the mission of AIAS to enrich communities in a spirit of collaboration; show an exemplary level of engagement from students with the client, architect, contractor and community; and have a clear understanding of the practical impact of architecture and design. On Saturday, April 9, 2011, the University of Minnesota Freedom by Design chapter will host their 3rd Annual Art Auction. The silent auction will take place in the Rapson Hall Courtyard from 2-6 pm, with time to pick up art until 6:30 pm.
Freedom by Design is the community service program of the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS). The group works on small-scale design build projects for low income disabled and elderly people in the Twin Cities community, with the goal of providing safety, comfort, and dignity in their lives.
