Dear Colleagues, With finals and the holidays at our doorstep, I wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy and safe holiday season. As the year comes to a close, I believe that the momentum we've built up over the last many months will make 2012 a defining year for our College and the application of design in a much broader context. Yale School of Architecture Publishes Essay by Architecture Head Renee Cheng

A new book out by the Yale School of Architecture, BIM in Academia, features an essay by the College of Design's School of Architecture Head, Professor Renee Cheng. The collection includes essays by educators and practitioners weighing in on the debate over how Building Information Modeling (BIM) should be taught in architecture schools in the United States. Professor Cheng's essay, "Facing the Fact of BIM: Architectural Curricula Past, Present and Future," argues that tools like BIM are helpful in practice but often in conflict with historically used pedagogical approaches towards architectural education. Samuel Carlsen (M Arch '08) Awarded Enterprise Rose Architectural Fellowship

The Enterprise Rose Architectural Fellowship, a highly competitive, three-year fellowship partnering emerging architectural leaders with community developers, was awarded to Master of Architecture graduate Samuel Carlsen. Carlsen will work with the Saint Paul Riverfront Corporation to provide design leadership for the Central Corridor Light Rail project and neighborhoods impacted by its construction. According to a press release announcing the award, Carlsen will "help the City of Saint Paul build transformative public spaces, as well as encourage developers to bring the values of equality and sustainability into their own projects and practices".
