Thank you for your support! Because of your generosity, we surpassed our $10,000 goal to help extend our initiatives with local Habitat for Humanity projects. Your gifts, in large and small amounts, will provide funding to continue developing projects like our Zero-Energy Home – researched, designed, refined, and developed by two College of Design architecture classes – and Habitat's Restores, which involves our retail merchandising students. We also have two housing studies faculty serving as advisors for the University's Student Habitat for Humanity Chapter. Fifth Graders Take College Course in Design

This December, Terry Wiley's fifth grade class at Bruce Vento Elementary School in St. Paul, MN took their first college course in design. As part of a new initiative at the college to keep creativity vibrant in children, the Student Services team, led by Lori Swenson and Nikki Mumma, at the College of Design "adopted" the entire class. Last Wednesday's gathering was the first of many planned for the future to help the students learn first-hand about the College of Design and how thinking like designers can help them with problem-solving. Samuel Carlsen (M Arch '08) Awarded Enterprise Rose Architectural Fellowship

The Enterprise Rose Architectural Fellowship, a highly competitive, three-year fellowship partnering emerging architectural leaders with community developers, was awarded to Master of Architecture graduate Samuel Carlsen. Carlsen will work with the Saint Paul Riverfront Corporation to provide design leadership for the Central Corridor Light Rail project and neighborhoods impacted by its construction. According to a press release announcing the award, Carlsen will "help the City of Saint Paul build transformative public spaces, as well as encourage developers to bring the values of equality and sustainability into their own projects and practices". Graphic Design Student Mari Mihai Designs UMN Holiday E-Card

To read the entire article, please click here.] In this, their first winter as the U of M presidential couple, Karen and Eric Kaler sent a colorful, animated seasonal ecard to the extended University community. If you've seen it, you may have assumed the design was professionally done. In fact, it was the work of two U of M students: Mari Mihai, a third-year graphic design undergrad, and Adam Zahller Brown, a first-year grad student in music composition.
