Susan Watkins Receives Honorary Degree

Honorary degree recipient Susan Watkins was honored during the University of Minnesota College of Design commencement ceremony held on Saturday, May 17, 2014. Watkins is a teacher, designer, researcher, and author, as well as a mentor to a generation of students in the field of functional apparel design. She attended Pennsylvania State University and earned her B.S. in 1965 in consumer services in business, a program geared toward fashion merchandising. She continued in graduate school studying textiles and clothing at the same institution and earned her M.S. in 1967. Peter Cavaluzzi (B.Arch '83) Named Master Planner for Mayo Project

Peter Cavaluzzi (B.Arch ’83), design principal at New York-based EE&K, will serve as master planner for the Destination Medical Center in Rochester, MN. According to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal, the $5 billion economic development initiative is tied to the long-term growth of the Mayo Clinic and the city of Rochester. Mayo plans to invest about $3.5 billion in new facilities over the next two decades and nearly double its workforce from 30,000 to 60,000.  Cavaluzzi is also the lead designer on the $80 million transit station near Target Field in Minneapolis, MN.
