Generous $1 Million Gift Elevates Apparel Design Collections

Close friends of the College of Design have committed $1 million for an endowment to create a named faculty position. This generous gift will provide an ongoing source of funding to support a faculty member who will further the scholarship related to historic dress and curate the historic dress collection in the Goldstein Museum of Design.

New Student Group Introduced in School of Architecture

Founded in 1971, the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) was created to empower, mentor, and support minority architects. Starting this semester, students in the School of Architecture can get more involved in NOMA’s work thanks to the creation of a new student chapter, NOMAS.

A new collaborative project between the College of Design (CDes) and the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resources (CFANS) and funded through the International Student Academic Services Fee shines a spotlight on supporting international students. Starting this semester, Veronica Quillien will act as the new graduate assistant for international student initiatives across both colleges.

Landscape Architecture Alumna Wins ASLA Award of Excellence

Though easily forgotten and often misunderstood, the infrastructures of wastewater treatment are closely tied to our everyday lives. Bridget Ayers Looby (M.L.A. ’16) explores this relationship in her capstone project Invisible Works: A public introduction to the dynamic life of wastewater treatment for which she was awarded the American Society of Landscape Architects’ (ASLA) highly coveted Student Award of Excellence in the category of general design.

College of Design Researchers Take On Grand Challenges

As part of the work to tackle the University’s five Grand Challenge focus areas, the University has allocated $2.96 million over the next two years through the University’s Driving Tomorrow awards. This funding will support six interdisciplinary team projects and two six-member one-year Grand Challenges Research Scholar Collaboratives. Participating on the teams being funded are two College of Design faculty members Kristine Miller (Landscape Architecture) and Daniela Sandler (Architecture).
