Design Studio On the Road: Visiting San Francisco
Graduate students in the Arch 8255 Urban Design studio led by Professor Ignacio San Martin traveled to San Francisco in October to visit the new Medical Campus at Mission Bay being constructed by the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center.
Associate Director for Facilities Sandra Beck met with students throughout a two hour presentation that included visiting the new laboratories, residential units for new Faculty and Post-doctoral research fellows and recreational facilities. The Mission Bay site was previously the location of an abandoned large Southern Pacific rail yard that has been completely transformed into a bustling new biotechnology hub.
The trip also included a visit to the extensive bioremediation installation work at Crissy Field designed by the landscape firm Hargreaves Associates, the firm of George Hargreaves, and the California Academic of Sciences expansion building by architect Renzo Piano with renowned green roof technology.
