Big Brothers Big Sisters Learn about Landscape Design and Planning
On May 3, students and faculty in the Landscape Architecture department invited mentors, family members, and their “Littles” from the Big Brothers Big Sisters
of the Greater Twin Cities (BBBS) to Rapson Hall for an event to learn
about unique academic paths and careers related to Landscape Design and Planning.
The young participants ranged
from toddlers to high school students. During the event Brad Agee and Tony Chevalier (Landscape Architecture), along with Landscape
Design and Planning students,
Coal Dorius, Melanie Schroeder, and Sarah Sularz guided participants
through a space making project.
The “Littles” were challenged to
craft an interpretation of their neighborhoods by defining streets, building lots, and zones with wooden blocks. The
completed models abstract represented how each team defined place.
